After having three games back to back earlier last week, the Devils and Lady Devils can take some practice days to prepare to go into battle next week.

Boys JV won 2 games out of 3 this past week (Brentsville and William Monroe) and fell short to Riverbend, putting them at a record of 2 - 1.

Girls JV won all of their games this past week, putting them at a record of 4 - 0.

Coming off of 2 defeats this week, Coach Jennings says, "I just want our players to continue to work harder and believe in each other."

High Points for last week: Getting off to a 3 - 1 start. Coach says, "I like winning."

Low Points for last week: A lot of fouls, turnovers, and bad shooting.

I asked Coach about his team's performance and some other things to improve on. He stated, "I was pleased knowing we want to be playing consistently in January and February. Some things we need to improve on are our shooting percentages and our defensive rebounds."

Next up, they have Riverbend again and King George. "Riverbend is tough," said Jennings "we must believe that we can pull off the upset because they are well coached and play together well. With King George, we just want to pay them back for beating us both times last year".

Coach also listed his player of the week with honorary mentions below.

Player of the week: BJ Cottoms.

Girls Varsity had an interesting last week as well. Coming off a defeat for the first game of the week, they were able to pull off 2 wins (against William Monroe and a close call with Riverbend). Coach Hutcherson stated, "Considering we had to play 3 games back to back to back, I'd say we played well. We didn't win the first game of the week, but we finished the week strong! A thought to remember 'It's not how you begin, it's how you end'. So, we ended the week 2-1." He describes the team as resilient. "They could've quit in each game this week" he stated, "but they didn't! We were behind twice this week and gave up a pretty decent lead and were able to get ack in their groove again to get a 20 point lead! The R.G.L.B.D. had a good week!" That acronym stands for 'The Runnin’ and Gunnin’ Lady Blue Devils and that's exactly what they are!

High Points of last week: A'myah Robinson recorded games of 30, 36, and 41! Kelley Hutcherson has been switched from shooting guard to point guard. Coach Hutcherson stated "I've asked Hutcherson to switch positions which means her points average will be down and we'll sacrifice not having her around the basket for rebounds offensively, but she will still be down low defensively to secure the board for us until we can get the rest of the team to help run the offense". Hutcherson's versatility has given Coach Hutcherson the opportunity for different spots over the 3 years she's played in his program.

Low Points of last week: "Losing againt Brentsville District", Coach continued, "was our lowest point of the week. We just came out flat and by the time we raised our level, our time unfortunatly just ran out. Late starts are causing us to expense too much energy that we do not have to use. Hutcherson, will work to get our offense off to a better start in the games to come"

I asked Coach about some improvements that the Lady Devils need to work on moving foward. "We had too many turnovers this past week that cannot continue to do if we are going to be successful", Hutcherson stated. "We have a number of kids we have to help get a better understanding of our offense and our defensive schemes. We need more from Hutcherson and Robinson other than their scoring abilities. We moved them both to different spots to help create some new things for them and openings for their teammates," he continued. "They have not missed a beat and have scrapped and scraped to ge the win! When I first arrived, the team I had inherited would have given up or quit once we got down or loss a lead. This team is resilient and goes into each game knowing we should arise victorious!"

The plans for the Lady Devils coming up, time off from away games. "We will make sure those that need treatment get it and we have to sure up some things down low and then we will be ready to make another run" Hutcherson stated. "We have Riverbend again and King George and both teams are well coached so we as coaches will have to do our homework and get our team prepared to secure 2 more wins".

Coach Hutcherson says "It should be a good week for us coming up and stay tuned because the best is yet to come! We might see Hutcherson post a triple double or watch Robinson break her own record and drop 60! Stay tuned in to the CPEP Blues Podcast for all the latest and greatest info on your favorite Blue Devils. God Bless!"

I follow up that comment with the same message; stay tuned because the best is yet to come!
