Dearest gentle reader, (In my Lady Whistledown voice - Bridgerton fans, stand up!)
Seriously though, to everyone who reads my articles, thank you. I appreciate the love.
And to those who continue supporting me, thank you. It means a lot. This journey is not easy, but having the right people around makes it all worthwhile.
Let me start by wishing you a happy (albeit late) new year, hoping that this year brings you peace and plenty of opportunities!
As you can tell, I’ve been absent from my articles, and I’m here to explain while sharing a bit about myself.
If you know me, you know. But if you don't, let me formally introduce myself. My name is Kayla, and I’m a self-proclaimed sports photographer and freelance journalist. Born and raised in good ol' Culpeper, I graduated from Eastern View in '17 and am currently in college working toward my bachelor's degree. I am a new wife, and my biggest accomplishment so far—being the best mother I can be to my 4-month-old son!
I currently write for anyone I see fit, but I prefer to stay with the Blue and Gold, covering Culpeper County High School athletics, especially my favorite sport—basketball.
As time goes on, I plan to venture out and explore other topics to blog about, but basketball season is my main focus right now.
Not only do I write articles and take pictures, but I also host a podcast called The CPEP Blues. On the podcast, we discuss the game (my expertise primarily lies in basketball, softball, and volleyball, but I’m open to other sports), share life lessons, uplift the youth, answer questions, and engage in plenty of discussions—it's truly a podcast for all ages!
The last article published was in December 2024... where have you been? I’ve been busy being a mom (very important) and starting my final semester of undergrad at Old Dominion University. Just 2 more months until I say goodbye to undergrad and begin my Master's.
Now that I have my school/life schedule established, I'm here to continue highlighting the talent I see at Culpeper County High School. The youth, unfortunately, do not receive the attention they deserve in the newspaper, and this wasn't always the case. It's time for me to take the initiative and start highlighting their voices and stories myself—after all, why not?
Stay tuned for more pictures and articles. I have a lot to discuss, and I hope you take a moment to read about it.
Until next time,
Kayla O.
